The Gorbachev Foundation in Italy

The Italian branch of the Gorbachev Foundation was founded in Piacenza in 1998.

It is presided over by Marzio Dallagiovanna, a business consultant and owner of his own company. He is an expert in and consultant for business relations between Italy and Russia.

The Vice-President is Vittorio Torrembini, director of the Association of Italian Entrepreneurs in Russia.

Cristiano Grandi, an advertising agent and specialist, acts as Secretary and is also responsible for Foreign Relations.

Franco Scepi, is the communication consultant

In April, 1999, the Italian Foundation organised the first World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, sponsored by the City of Rome (in collaboration with Alitalia, L¹Unità, Banca Nazionale del Lavoro, Banca di Roma, Monte dei Paschi di Siena, Musicalia and the Publisì Advertising Agency, general co-ordinator).

In May, 2000, it organised a three day event at the Accademia di Brera in Milano and the Museo Bargellini di Pieve di Cento in Bologna to inaugurate a three metre high bronze statue, entitled "The Man for Peace" (created by Franco Scepi), that represents the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates.

Mikhail Gorbachev participated in the inauguration.

The statue, created by the artist Franco Scepi, was situated at the entrance of the new museum in Pieve di Cento (Bologna).

The Italian branch of the Gorbachev Foundation, moreover, has committed itself to several social and cultural initiatives.

Among these is the organisation of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates on the Threshold of the 21st Century, to be held in Rome on November 11th and 12th, 2000.

Other events, associated with peace and the promotion of the statue/symbol of the Summit, have been planned through contacts in Italy, Japan, the Czech Republic and U.S.A..

On September 2001 the Gorbachev Foundation organized in Piacenza a conference on the theme Italia, Russia, Europe. Which future? supported by the Piacenza and Vigevano Foundation, with participation of important Russian economists, historians and sociologists.

The Gorbachev Foundation at present is carrying out many social and culturale projects, as the 3° Summit of the Nobel Peace Laureates to be held in Rome from 18th to 21st October 2002, a big international event on the ecological emergency and some meetings and conferencences in Italian towns with the participation of President Gorbachev.
